Second-hand parts: professional repairers must suggest you that

Table of contents

In 2016, a decree stipulated that "spare car parts from the circular economy" had to be suggested to the clients. It finally took almost 3 years for the measure to become official. Since January 1, 2019, car repairers are required to systematically offer customers parts labeled PIEC. (parts of the circular economy) During repairs and maintenance on their vehicles.

What does this decree say ?

This decree of October 8th, 2018, implements Article L224-67 of the Consumer Code. Any garage must therefore offer its customers the assembly of second-hand parts. However, the parts in question must be labeled PIEC and therefore come from a center for end-of-life vehicles (ELV) approved by the prefecture. This means that the parts have been inspected, verified and have the traceability. They can be any removable body parts, unglued glazing, interior trim parts and even the upholstery. Optics are also concerned as well as mechanical and electronic parts. The latter is subject to one condition: they must be unconnected to the running gear, braking, steering or ground connection.

In concrete terms...

Let's imagine your vehicle's DPF or catalytic converter is out of order. Of your own free will, you go to a qualified repairer. The latter must therefore be able to offer you PIEC-certified equipment. However, the use of aftermarket parts is more advisable for a seat or door than for a DPF. Referring to the article of law, nothing prohibits the assembly of a PIEC-certified second-hand DPF. However, since it is complex to verify the condition of the DPF monoliths, you can very properly receive the filter of a city vehicle, potentially clogged. Finding a cheap DPF is possible. But better to leave on a new part, like the DPF factory price Krosfou.

At the end, although this new law will not directly impact the change of DPF, it will play a major role on the household maintenance budget. It should be noted that second-hand spare parts must be clearly mentioned upstream of the estimate. The objective is twofold: to lower the cost of maintaining a vehicle and to favor re-use with an ecological goal. For your Renault Clio catalytic converter, it is also better to choose a new part...

Do you want to know if your Catalytic Converter is Bad ? Do you want to know if your DPF is clogged ?
